The story behind the work

A life in
the making.

I’m Eliahi Priest, an Australian founder, third-generation jeweller and systems architect.

My career has taken me through family enterprise, international advocacy, resource provenance, statecraft and AI governance. The work moves between practical decisions and the systems that give those decisions consequence: who has authority, what evidence supports a commitment, and who remains responsible.

01 / Inheritance

The bench

My family’s jewellery business began in 1946. I joined Priest Jewellers in 2012 and took over its leadership in 2021.

Jewellery begins with people. A repair returns an object to someone who wants to keep wearing it. A bespoke piece takes shape around an intention, a memory or an occasion. There is the material itself, and there is what it means to the person who will hold it.

The work brings design and judgement together with sourcing, suppliers and the daily demands of running a business. It asks for attention to the small things: the setting, the finish, the fit.

In 2023, I designed the Kristy-Elle Heirloom Bracelet, donated by Priest Jewellers for Katie Rose Cottage Hospice’s fundraising raffle. It is one example of craftsmanship serving a purpose beyond the sale.

02 / Provenance

Beyond the
finished object

The finished piece is one part of a much longer story. A stone or metal has an origin, a journey and a chain of decisions behind it.

My work with valuable materials expanded into resource due diligence and international engagement. Provenance brought questions about fair trade, institutional authority and the conditions surrounding the movement of resources.

The view widened from the object to the people and systems behind it.

03 / International engagement

Across borders

My international work began before I formally joined the family business. As UK Director and Head of UK Operations for the Institute for Cooperation in Space, I worked to advance awareness of the Space Preservation Treaty. In 2008, I represented the institute at the 18th IAEWP World Peace Congress in Kuala Lumpur, speaking on the peaceful use of space.

At that congress, a handshake with Aloise Makoule Goma began my journey into Africa. That meeting opened a path that would become a substantial part of my life and work.

Later, as CEO of The Priest Group, my work extended across South Africa, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Kenya. It has addressed resource provenance, development finance and institutional authority.

I attended government-level meetings in the DRC in 2024 and Botswana in 2025, following formal invitations through presidential offices.

Alongside business and technical work, I have undertaken sustained humanitarian advocacy, preparing submissions and engaging legal and public officials in support of people facing serious hardship.

These settings bring different interests and different kinds of authority into the same conversation. A proposal has to become a shared understanding before it can become practical work.

Accountability

Authority carries
responsibility.

The disciplines change. The need to distinguish a promise from what can be delivered remains. That concern now informs how I approach systems architecture.

Systems architecture

04 / Systems

From questions
to systems

The question of the Technological Singularity has occupied me since 2009: what happens when intelligence outruns the structures built to govern it?

At SingularScript, I lead the development of AI governance systems that make evidence and accountable responsibility conditions of permission for consequential actions.

The Law of Return and Trusted Continuance address how a system can continue while preserving a record of its unfinished obligations. A claim of completion is assessed against evidence and authority. Responsibilities remain visible as the work progresses.

We have developed a working local Alpha for controlled software submissions and staging publication. The programme brings together systems architecture, formal-methods research and implementation testing.

Present tense

Still in
the making.

The bench is still part of my life. So are business and conversations across borders. SingularScript carries those concerns into a new technical setting.

I approach the work as an artist. The material changes: precious metals, ideas, institutions, systems. The attention stays with what they become in human hands.
